I know many people are against it, but really, I don't see why... No one questions it being wrong to be heterosexual... And I can't quite see why being homosexual would be at the same place as hentai; there's nothing traumatizing to children about it, in the very least, and is a completely different subject altogether, really. As long as there's genuine love between two people, does it really matter? There's enough hate that finding love where it is is a wonderfully refreshing thing. Maybe the Japanese society is a bit further along on the acceptance scale than the American... And in case you're wondering, I'm heterosexual, so that wasn't a personal outrage, but I do have some friends that are homosexual, and they're some of the most caring, intelligent, and nice people I've ever known. of the page. It seemed like a decent enough idea at the time, but that
bottom half got awful repetetive, and in retrospect I should've skipped
it. Oh well. I'm curious though - you're all so terribly against hentai, right? WITHOUT resorting to personal opinion (it's disgusting, it's stupid, it's evil, etc...) tell me: Why? What effect does the presence of hentai or lack thereof have on you personally? In the sort of world we inhabit, trade-offs are to be made. Certainly the internet is a vast and wonderful thing when you know how to get what you're looking for, and of course there are people on both sides of this issue (some with higher maturity levels than others...) but who can say that one purpose is appropriate, while the other is not? Do remember that not all the world is judeo-christian, and not all the world shares the same values. There are religions and cultures and beliefs that find things like hentai perfectly acceptable. They, in and of themselves, cause no harm. If after looking at such things, you go out into the world and force another to "aid" you in recreating what you saw... that is not the fault of hentai, but rather your own fault for such poor self-control. It's like saying that there should be no movies with high-speed chases, because they lead to people getting speeding tickets. Responding to an earlier post; whatever "pollutes your mind and soul" only does so because you lack the strength, discipline, and/or desire to prevent it from doing so. Is hentai wrong? Apparently there are people who believe it to be so. Personally, I disagree. The laws in japan would have disallowed it entirely if it were widely enough believed to be so. Since hentai is merely a depiction of sex, does this make sex wrong? I should certainly hope not. Granted sex itself is not the issue, but it's a small step for someone to start crying that it ought to be. If you dislike such things that much, then understand that you cannot go through this world blindly, expecting to see only what you want to see. Pay attention to things before you get into them. Most hentai sites, from experience, have some aspect to their name or description that, before you click on it, will alert you to what lies inside. In the event that you DO unwittingly stumble upon such a site, don't allow it to bother you as much as you might. Certainly sounds hard, but it's not. A bit like my not allowing a clique of such conservative, closed-minded people to really, really piss me off. There's precious little I can do about it (if anything), so why waste the energy? I'm just as outnumbered here as you are in the world. You're certainly entitled to your beliefs and opinions, but so is everyone else. Life cannot be crafted to suit only one type of person - there are myriad different people, and they must all share the same space. In catering to one, you may offend another. The severity of this offense is a matter of personal control. BTW - what about all the women being kidnapped in the east? Ripped from their normal day-to-day lives and sold into sexual slavery... made prostitutes against their will, kept captive to ensure their profitability. Why not spend the time being against that? Unlike hentai, it DOES harm people, and it has for decades. Just a thought. |

Plus, I have one of the video games. Not to mention the CCS poster tacked up in my room. Oh, that comment really did strike a nerve... And it really hurt too. I think some humanity in general don't realize how hurtful their comments are. posted it seems. A bit saddening, but I guess such controversial topics do
in the end almost always resolve in nonsensical flame wars. Well, working a bit off of what HB said, while I certainly sisagree with the way she put most of her points I will agree that some hentai is very artistically beautiful. While you do claim that you only wish "regulations" (best word I could think up) on certain types of hentai, let's be honest. Any type of regulation passed would be a broad blanket scope one which would end up encompassing everything that had the H-word in it, not just the kiddie-incest-tentacle rape type stuff. While this does away with all of the bad stuff (oye, and ther is a lot...), it also in the end has the effect of deterring anyone from the sites which have risque yet still quite beautiful artwork. Much that is labled "hentai", as the word "ecchi" has been quite thrown out of the dictionary in the case of most anime viewers it seems, is fairly tame. I certainly can't say most...there are far to many rather disturbing doujinshi and fan-stories out there for me to say that, but there is still a sizable chunk which is. And the suggestion says "kill them all"...seems just a bit to broad for me. If you can find a way to block all the sick stuff and keep the artistic pieces alive, then I'd certainly give you my backing, but as is that seems a pretty hopeless dream.
