Rekord Country - Kaede Saitou and Sai Jounouchi as the Librarians
The gang arrive in a country where people study magic so Mokona doesn't have to hide, it has a huge library. Syaoran picks up a book with no title and is projected into the story. He can't get out. The book projects the memories of the person who first held it to the person who next holds it.
It is Kurogane's past: His childhood in the territory of Suwa in Japan, with his father, a warrior and his mother, a miko (magical priestess).
Suwa is attacked by goblins, Kurogane's father must leave to fight them and his mother is ill, she has used much energy creating and maintaining wards against the goblins.
As her husband is away fighting, she decides to go to the shrine to pray for him instead of going to a doctor. A hand holding a sword reaches from a dimension hole in the wall and kills her. Kurogane arrives just too late and can't stop the hand.
Kurogane's mother dies and goblins invade the grounds. One goblin has his father's arm and sword in his jaws. Kurogane's eyes go blank, he grabs his father's sword and goes insane.
The Emperess, her daughter and her bodyguard, Souma arrive in Suwa. They find a crazed boy amongst the ruins. The goblins are all dead but Kurogane is out of control.
The daughter asks if she can deal with him instead of using violence. She uses magic to bind the rabid Kurogane and gently closes his dead mother's eyes. Kurogane awakens from his crazy state. The girl presents herself, she is Tsukuyomi, a miko princess known as Tomoyo.
Kurogane wishes for his father's sword, Ginryuu, to be buried with his mother as there is no corpse for him. Tomoyo agrees but she will make him an identical sword so that he can continue to protect people like his father wanted him to.
The book releases Syaoran who is weeping. He apologizes to Kurogane for viewing his past without permission.
Kurogane is slightly embarrased but they discuss certain details such as the hand that slayed his mother: it carried the bat symbol that they have seen on magical warriors in their dimensional travels and that appeared first at the ruins in Clow country when Sakura lost her feathers. Kurogane has hope that he will one day find the owner of that hand as they cross dimensions.
The friends now go in search of Sakura's feather which is located in the original Book of Memories (the one Syaoran read was a copy) and kept in the restricted area of the central library in a town called Biblio. Mokona warns them that it will be guarded by two great beasts.
At the library, they are not allowed to borrow the book because people have tried to steal it in the past. They decide to 'steal' it and come back later. They find a wall which opens onto a tunnel. They run through the tunnel to escape the library guards and end up in Clow country! It is a memory. They walk to the Clow country ruins. Mokona can feel the feather's power coming from under the floor. The ground opens up so Syaoran and Kurogane jump down into the darkness. A watchdog guarding the book awaits them down there. Syaoran doesn't want to hurt it since it's only doing it's job protecting the book that they ARE stealing afterall... but the watchdog overpowers him. Syaoran is injured and falls to the floor. He twiches and something takes over him. He fights, grabs the feather and throws away the book. The guys then reappear next to Sakura and Fai above ground and Syaoran becomes himself again witho no memories of what just happened.
Sakura's memory is of her sitting next to someone in the ruins and chatting happily.
Now that they have the feather, the gang decide to move on to the next world but when Mokona spreads it's wings to open a portal, it is zapped, magic is blocked in this place. They run to find somewhere where Mokona will be able to use magic. They find themselves blocked by magical waves and another watchdog. Fai uses magic to move them somewhere else (despite saying he wouldn't use magic without his tattoo)
/// In the manga they go straight to a new world but in the anime they are still in Rekord ///
They see a display that has their faces on it, wanted as theives. Mokona is ill from the incident earlier. The travellers decide to go hide back in the library where no-one would think of looking.
Fai has an idea: why not use the Book of Memories to find out Syaoran's unknown past and resolve the mysteries surrounding him such as why he appeared possessed earlier in the ruins. Fai won't do it himself, he's too afraid of sharing his memories or being tied to others so he asks Kurogane. Kurogane gets flustered when Sakura interrupts his plan so Syaoran ends up in Kurogane's memories again instead.
This time, Syaoran is being shown Kurogane's adolescence: He is being trained by Souma and they don't get on well at all. Kurogane and Tomoyo call each other by their first names.
Tomoyo presents him with a new Ginyruu sword but he must make five vows:
1 - To behave peacefully amongst other citizens.
2 - To not fight in their homeland.
3 - To never forget mercy, even towards an enemy.
4 - To value every life.
5 - To use his strength to protect the ones he loves.
Kurogane takes the vows and holds up the sword as Tomoyo's blesses it with magic. He then has a vision of his parents smiling.
Back in Rekord country, The librarians track down the hiding gang and send their floating guards into the library. Kurogane and Syaoran prepare for a face off versus the floating guards and the impressive watchdog beast but suddenly the beast turns into a small and cute winged lion-dog creature and facehugs Kurogane. The librarians aren't hunting them anymore, in fact they thank the gang for getting rid of the feather which was harmful to their country.
