Tsubasa Chronicle Episode Guide

Episodes 48 - 52 {back to episodes}
Tao Country - King Chaos, Keifer and Charme, Hokuto Shichiku and Nanto Rokku the royal guards, Touya and Yukito.
Our travellers land...in the sky! They fall fast until they land gently in balls of light. They meet Keifer and Charme who explain that the country of Tao is filled with a magic called 'Senriki' that everyone uses: Earthly 'hermits' are normal people who can move objects with magic, heavenly 'hermits' are people who have trained hard in magic and who can fly, spiritual 'hermits' spend their life studying magic and are very powerful and godly 'hermits' can do pretty much anything. Our friends are already heavenly hermits, which is why they landed softly earlier.
Mokona thinks that the feather is in Kunlun castle, home to King Chaos. He is the only godly hermit of the country and can even see the future. He sends out guards to collect princess Sakura, to talk with her about her feathers.
Inside the throne room, Chaos, the king of feathers appears in a flash of light and Mokona senses a feather. He knows all about their quest and has many magical feathers in his royal fan. He'll give them feathers for information about all the different worlds that they have visited. Kurogane remains suspicious but Chaos hands over all the feathers of the fan at once to Sakura, she falls into deep sleep and is put to bed while she views her memories.
Yuuko calls up the guys on the Mokona-phone to remind them that they owe her white day presents. She talks cryptically about karma and how good deeds will lead to good things whereas bad intentions will lead to downfall.
Fei Wang Reed and Xing Huo talk of waking up the 'other' Syaoran but Xing Huo decides to travel to Tao herself to investigate the strong power emanating from that country.
The king informs them that there are more feathers, a magical ancient bird 'Genkaku' lives at the sacred mountain. The feathers from the wing-fan came from this stork. Chaos requests that the guys defeat the bird, they would be able to keep its feathers.
The mountain is infested with demons but suddenly, the friends find themselves fighting their own personal demons. Syaoran fights Seishirou, Kurogane fights his father and Fai fights King Ashura who turns into Fai so he ends up fighting himself.
Sakura's memories are of her meeting Chaos, he saved her from a desert creature back in Clow country when she was a child. Chaos was there to visit King Clow and make ties between their two countries. They become friends. He promises to one day help her travel and will follow her to protect her.
Once awake, Sakura is taken by Chaos to a garden that features a miniature Clow country set. He asks her to travel with him without her friends and they will find her feathers together. He says that the guys are unrelated to Sakura and should be allowed to live their own lives: this is untrue but Sakura does not know it since Syaoran has not been able to reveal his past friendship with Sakura and she was unconcious when they first met Yuuko, Fai and Kurogane so she doesn't know about their pact either. However, Sakura gently refuses his offer.
Mokona senses that Chaos' heart has changed and that he will force her to stay with him. Sakura tries to run but is trapped by a magical cage of light. Chaos is in love with Sakura, he transports the guys to the garden to fight them. His powers exceed the guys strengths and Chaos defeats Kurogane, Fai then Syaoran.
Syaoran's sword is broken and all three guys are badly hurt. Sakura still refuses to give up her friends so he puts her under a spell, attacks Mokona and opens a vortex to another world. His wings appear, they are made of hundreds of feathers like Sakura's memories.
Despite the strong spell binding her will, tears fall from Sakura's face when she hears Syaoran's cry out to her. King Chaos decides to stay in Tao instead and make her change her mind first. He takes her back to the palace and gives her more feathers so that she will remember their special friendship and trust him.
Mokona finds the three guys unconcious and goes to find help. Kiefer and Charme take care of them. When they wake the princess has been abducted and they must recuperate their strength because they are badly wounded.
Syaoran doubts himself, he feels useless to Sakura and he is losing hope. Fai explains to Kurogane that it is Syaoran and Sakura's relationship and trust of eachother that is being tested, far more than their fighting techniques or powers and that will be the key to ending the conflict. He then goes to Syaoran and reminds him that Sakura is Syaoran's most precious thing in life. That relationship should matter more to him than his doubts about whether he is good enough to travel with Sakura.
Fai makes a magical medicine to boost Syaoran's health. Kurogane calls Yuuko to request that she lend him his precious item: Ginryuu, his ancestral magical sword so that Syaoran may fight Chaos but She can't grant him that wish: He must trust Syaoran to be strong enough just with Kurogane's normal sword.
Kurogane hands over his sword to Syaoran and wishes him well... Mokona kisses a embarrassed Kurogane for his loving gesture! Mokona kisses Fai too for his caring actions to Syaoran and promises to kiss Syaoran later to celebrate Sakura's return.
// Episode 51 //
While Sakura is held prisoner in the castle, the guys visit a shrine to the magical Genkaku with Keifer and Charme. Legend has it that the powerful bird created the country of Tao and that King Chaos inherited these powers. Kiefer and Charme are confused by Sakura's kidnapping and still believe in their king. Kurogane helps Syaoran practice his sword skills for the fight against Chaos while Fai and Mokona go to spy on the castle security. The guards suddenly leave, the castle is being attacked, so Mokona takes the chance to fly into the castle. The intruders are the mysterious soldiers with the red batwing logos that our friends have met in previous worlds: Chaos kills them all in one stroke and Xing Hao who has been watching the whole scene, discreetly leaves and reports back to Fei Wong Reed that the defenses are as strong as expected.
Chaos gives Sakura more feathers: her memories are of Chaos again and of her past love for him. Sakura's subconscience tells her that this isn't right, this isn't true: She wonders if this really is a memory...or is it just a dream? The memory world cracks and Sakura's body rejects the feathers. She awakens to find a very worried Fai and Mokona who comfort her.
Mokona realizes that the feathers are fakes, so the memories must be fake too. Chaos appears before them and Sakura confronts him: "I have lost all my memories and that's why I am on a quest to find them again. You tried to control me with false ones, I think that was very cowardly." Chaos asks Fai to report their discovery back to Syaoran and challenges him to a duel.
They fight as their friends look on. Syaorans skills have radically increased. The looks between Sakura and Syaoran enrage Chaos who launches his powerful Thunderblade attack (the one that killed all the batwing soldiers earlier) but Syaoran counters it. Sakura shouts encouragement to Syaoran despite Chaos who demands her to be quiet... Chaos sets his guards onto Syaoran, freezes Sakura's body and soul into a giant crystal then transforms into Genkaku to attack the guys!
// Episode 52 //
Chaos, in his giant bird form Genkaku, attacks the boys who have no idea how to fight him. He targets Syaoran with fireballs and is destroying his own castle and the town.
Syaoran asks Fai and Kurogane to go save Sakura while he distracts him, acting as bait. Mokona is upset because Syaoran is risking his life so Mokona goes to fight with him.
Fei Wong Reed tells Xing Hao to help Chaos because they could use him in their quest to control the travelers. So when Fai and Kurogane go to release Sakura, they find her crystal surrounded by batwing soldiers.

Sakura's mind is in a strange alternate dimension, a place where only Chaos can reach her. He asks Sakura to save him, he doesn't want to end up hurting people. He has all lost control, his desire to be with Sakura has consumed him whole.
"Is there anything I can do for you Chaos?
"Yes, we share the same heart and mind after all."
Sakura sees his true form and is touched: her falling teardrop releases her from the magical crystal and the batwing soldiers vanish from the energy beams emitted. Chaos the bird flies away and Sakura goes to Syaoran to ask him to save Chaos from his reckless self.

Touya and Yuki, who are also swordsmiths, have run through the town to bring back Syaoran's sword, repaired at Kurogane's request.

Syaoran prepares for a final assault by holding Sakura's hand and saying words of trust. Fai and Kurogane throw him his repaired sword and Syaoran fights with two swords until they magically meld into one big super sword. He counters Chaos' giant fire ball and sends it back at him. The defeated Chaos cries a tear of relief and transforms back into the winged king.

The gang prepare to leave for a new world. Chaos is there thanking them and saying goodbye.
Sakura hugs him to the boys' surprise, saying "Chaos is Me". His true form is a cluster of Sakura's feathers that developped a mind of their own and became the thinking entity known as Chaos-sama... This explains his desire to be close to Sakura: he is part of her memories.
Choas believes in Syaoran's strength and courage to complete his quest to capture the feathers and looks forward to meeting him again (as the feathers not as King Chaos).
Chaos is now free to transform back into his original form: many dispersed feathers that twinkle and dissapear into the sky... Except for one that falls into Syaoran's hand, he hands it to Sakura.

Sakura's feather memory comes from a faily recent past, she is at the castle with her king brother and high priest Yuki asking to be able to travel to a foreign place, she is so happy to travel with a companion (Syaoran, that she can't see).

End Bonus: The four appear in their mini "chibi" forms thanking the public for their support and looking forward to seeing them again soon in new adventures.
