1 – Purchase “Eyeball” Bracelet from the bay for $1 + 3 weeks waiting time
2 – Yank out the eyes with pliers (doesn’t matter if sides of the eyeball are damaged)
3 – Cut the sides of the eyes down to match the Bratzillaz eyes
4 – Heat up the eyesockets with a hairdryer and insert new eyes using a screwdriver with the tip wrapped in a sock (to protect the face)

The bracelet can be found searching worldwide for “eyeball/evil/5/blue eye bracelet, there are also brown eyes available by searching for “eyeball coffee earring”. A set of 4 pairs of eyes in different colours is at 271127163811.

I have 3 leftover eyes that can be popped into an enveloppe for a buck worldwide (or a mini swap) if any would like them.

Quick tutorial on how to find eyes for your bratzillaz and swap them. I know this has been done before but I couldn’t find the exact measurements for purchasing new eyes so here ya go!

The bratzillaz eye is 12mm long, 10mm wide with an 8mm iris (On ebay, this is how small doll eyes are often measured: in iris size).
The height/dome of the eye is about 6mm (half flat type eye) so you wouldn’t be able to fit a spherical bead or spherical glass eye without cutting out the vinyl socket first.

Here I replaced Sashabella’s eye with a circular glass cabochon of 12mm but flat (4mm).
* 12mm animal eyes ( used on a pullip) had too much dome height and did not fit.
* 10mm flatback half pearls fit but left a slight gap at the side.

How to::
Heat up the neck hole and remove the doll’s head, then heat the eye with a hairdryer and
use a screwdriver orchopstick to push the eye out from the socket from inside the doll’s head.
Heat the eye socket again before inserting the new eye to avoid tearing.

I use the tool method with a smaller size needle for soft vinyl but the biggest problem with soft vinyl is that it tears open really easy
so here’s what I do to try to avoid it:

Be super careful when removing the original hair to not tug too hard on the holes (cutting super close to the head then gently scraping from the inside while the head is warm seems to work best)

Cover any risky looking areas with E6000 or superglue gel by pressing the glue into the holes with a big needle and scraping off the excess (24h drying time)

Make sure to point the needle so that it’s not sideways to the hole (dollyhair.com has a good photo of this on their reroot page)

When splits happen, seperate all the hair away from the split: fill with E6000 or superglue, leave to dry then work around it. Often the first line is the one to split so I have to redraw the hairline with a mechanical pencil then root in a new line of hair.

– Photos to be added later –

December was the month of the fakie with two Jenny clone heads ($1.50 each), a Lelia head ($3) and 6 Ddung clone heads as pen toppers ($0.60 for all 6) bought on a whim to play around with.
I think they’ve turned out alright considering their initial state.
The Ddung clones had the worst uneven vinyl that is paper thin in places.
The Jenny heads have the most even moulding but with bubbles in one of the dolls’ face.
The Lelia has the best face, it’s detailed and super cute. Shame about the head shape and original messy rooting.
I think the Jenny heads need new eyepaint, the omega sign on full black irises is just too vacant, i’m going to mock up something in a photoediting program later.

Lelia looks fabulous on both bratz body (needs rubber band to not wobble) or on barbie bodies. Jenny looks best on a bratz body or smaller (bratz kidz, obitsu 21-23, juku couture) and Ddung looks best on a body smaller than bratz (bratz kidz, obitsu 21-23, juku couture) .

I bought Pippa (grey, currently bald) and Mila (blue, gorgeous nylon hair) Midnight Magic dolls by Lovely Patsy via a lovely user on Dollymarket.com, they came from the Family Dollar store and cost $5 each (+ postage).

First things you need to do upon opening the box:

- Carefully remove the doll’s clothes and boots taking care to barely move the jointing on the doll’s arms.

- Using scissors, slit open the boots down the back seam, right down to the upper tip of the heel.

- Remove the head (it pops off) and pour some glue in it then leave it to dry for 12 hours upside down so that no hair falls out when you later brush and style it.

-Using a craft knife or box cutter (or very sharp nail scissors), shave off any excess plastic on the doll’s body: examine each articulation joint and shave off any excess plastic that might get in the way of movement

You’ll notice that there are disc shaped hinges in each joint: make sure to slice down the side of the hinge anywhere that it is covered in thin plastic, this will open it up so that the articulation can move freely.

Gently move each joint to see if all the articulation works and open up with a tiny slice wherever needed.

- Once the glue in the head has dried, pierce the ears with a push pin or a needle

-Examine the face, if there is any excess paint, use the back of the knife to very gently scrape it off (or use your fingernail)

Your Midnight Magic doll is now ready to go!

More photos:

Common dolly head sizes:

Head circumference same as My Scene: 5 inches:

The wide neck-hole and ball-joint neck knob:

Tearing of the thin vinyl skin over the hard plastic frame:

The body is very similar to Monster High Nefara but a little smoother around the collar bone. Unlike Monster high, the arms are not removable and the knees are click knees, not articulated.

The hair is a decent quality Nylon but not glued into the head. The heads are soft vinyl.
The torso is hard plastic and the limbs are hard plastic covered with a thin vinyl “skin” prone to tearing. They are the same height as Barbie: 30cm – 12 inches
They can wear Barbie bottoms if adjusted around the waist with a safety pin but not tops.
They can wear Bratz clothes providing the sleeves on tops are wide enough and keeping in mind that their torsos and legs are much longer than Bratz.

Use an elastic + boil perm to set the long eyelashes up against the face

Use nail scissors or sewing scissors to trim the eyelashes down to a slanting shape – no longer than 3mm at the shortest part (so it will look like eyeliner not lashes at certain angles).

Model: Myscene Madison custom “Blue Moon” who’s going to get a boil perm soon. Sorry about the sloppy photos, it’s just to show the technique. She had a wonky eye placement and the eyelashes are meant to minimise that.

Froggystuff posted an excellent quick doll wig tutorial, see it here.

Here’s how to make it seamless:

After following the previous tutorial,
¤ Use an elastic band that you can sew through (flat) or around (thin)
If the elastic is too long, cut it to size and sew the ends together roughly.
¤ Pin it in several places to the head (push the pin through the elastic and into vinyl of the scalp)
¤ Sew it to the hair (use a matching colour thread)
¤ Turn it inside out and place it on your doll’s head
¤ Cut a fringe (bangs) if the elastic is too visible.

You now have a seamless wig that should hold nicely even when shaken!

Meet Alexa, she’s a “Barbie the Diamond Castle singing Princess Alexa Doll” from 2003 Indonesia. Now bald!
—>>

When I first got her, her hair seemed super sticky but I figured that it was just hair gel and that it would wash out. Soap didn’t help at all.
The stickyness was worse at the base of the hair and scalp was also very tacky so I tried using alcohol on the hair and scalp, first wipes then an alcohol bath.

In the end, after trying different solvents, I ended up removing all her hair and the contents of her head.

The gunk inside is horrible, it messed up my tools and is very very sticky to deal with. It’s hard to get out as it gunges up and forms a thick mass of hair/gunk that won’t pull through the neckhole.
Alcohol neutralises the tackiness but once it evaporates the stickiness is back.
Acetone does not dissolve the glue, neither does WD40.

Alexa is going to get a full reroot. It’s the only solution I’ve found so far to save the doll. I’m told this is a common issue with various Mattel Playline dolls such as Monster High. When I rerooted both a Gloom Beach Draculaura and a Basic Ghoulia, they both had this nasty glue sap gunk.
My Fairytopia Barbies from 2004 don’t have this issue.

To make a head band for your doll you will need:

Wire from a used spiral bound notebook or thick beading wire.

4mm and 3mm plastic beads

Wire cutter and Round nose pliers (optional)

Cut 12cm of wire for a bratz head, 9cm for a barbie head, 20cm for a pullip head.

Make a loop at the start of the wire, string on your beads and make another loop to close it.

Bend the headband to fit your dolls head. You’re done!

Models: Maggie – Bratz Nighty Nighty Meygan and Dahlia – Fairytopia Barbie

Notes:

To straighten out spiral notebook wire, just jam a piece under your foot and use pliers to gently pull it straight.

You can also wrap your wire with ribbon or yarn for different effects.

If you have beading wire but it’s too thin and flexible then fold it in two and twist it tightly to make thicker wire.

You can use bigger beads for Pullip heads but for smaller dolls, anything over 4mm looks out of scale.
