Syaoran

character

Syaoran or Xiaolang Li, also knon as Li Showron in the USA or Lionel in France.
His name means little wolf.

Syaoran was raised in Hong Kong with his cousin Meiling where they were taught martial arts by their English tutor.
From an early age, he showed much talent and rapidity but he concentrated on his work so much that he never really played.
He is from the prestigious Li family descended from Clow Reed. Magic runs in the family and his mother, Ieran Li, is a powerful sorceress. Syaoran, as the man of his family, has heavy responsabilities towards them and feels obliged to never fail. His mother explains that it is his duty as heir to the Li family to become the master of the Clow cards so he moves to Japan, living away from home and learning a new language in order to reclaim the cards.
His father died when he was young and he has four older sisters: Fuutie, Shiefa, Fanren and Feimei Li who love cute things.

Syaoran shares an appartment with Meiling his cousin and his tutor Wei. Meiling is his unofficial fiancée.
When they were young, Meiling asked him to marry her and he accepted on the condition that if either of them ever falls in love with someone else they will break the engagement. Syaoran and Meiling were raised and trained together so his feelings for her are more brotherly than anything and their fighting skills are synchronized because they know each other so well.

Syaoran gets all light headed and embarrassed when around Yukito or Kaho, this is probably because he is overwhelmed by the strong magic that emanates from them.

At first, Syaoran is agressive with Sakura, she is the obstacle between him and the cards that he must own for the honor of the Li family. He dismisses Kero as a pale shadow of what Keroberos the guardian of the seal should really be: a powerful and big lion and at first doesn't want advice from this food obsessed talking teddybear.
As time goes by, he begins to see Sakura, Tomoyo, Meiling and even Kero as friends who don't expect him to be perfect and who truly care for him, he finds strength in a new place: his heart.
He quickly gains respect for Sakura by seeing her bravery and strong heart and soon he can't get her out of his head. His emotions are confused at first: he's jealous of Eriol being nice to Sakura, he rushes to her rescue when she needs him, he blushes and runs away when they talk... but soon he pieces his feelings together (with a little help from his friends) and realizes that he is in love. He secretly creates a special teddybear for the person who is the most important to him. After many unsucessful attempts, he confesses his love to Sakura and gives her the precious bear. It's then up to Sakura to face up to her feelings and overcome her shyness.
